The surrounding area offers some of the best outdoor experiences in the country. Waterfalls, volcano views, hot springs, rainforest hikes, and adrenaline-filled activities are all within a short drive, which is exactly why this area is so popular with first-time visitors and solo travelers.

Just follow the stairs down, and you’ll find a stunning waterfall cascading into a lush jungle. You can take a dip near the bottom (it’s a bit chilly, but super refreshing), or relax and soak in the views from the rocks and platforms. Just a heads-up, those stairs go both ways!! When you climb all those 500 stairs down, remember you’ll need to climb up every single one back up. Pace yourself!
2. Relax in the Natural Hot Springs (Free & Paid)
La Fortuna is known for its hot springs, thanks to Arenal Volcano’s geothermal activity. There are natural hot springs to choose from, ranging from free to paid ones at resorts. So, you can find the perfect fit for your travel style and budget.

Just keep in mind that there are no facilities such as lockers or changing rooms, so it’s best to visit during the day and take some basic precautions.
